I followed my love of surfing from the wave-starved suburbs of Washington, D.C., to Rhode Island for college, where I majored in Journalism. Getting outdoors was always in the background growing up, but it wasn’t until I was an adult that I got to explore what that meant for me. My career in the outdoor industry began at Eastern Mountain Sports in Middletown, RI, where I found I loved the fast-paced nature of retail and the future opportunities it held. Little did I know that a product knowledge clinic with Kristin ten years ago would lead me to this current job!
I spent time working on the wholesale side of the industry with MTI Life Jackets, which helped me see the bigger picture of outdoor retail, and work with shops and athletes across the country. However, I missed the gratification of helping consumers find the right gear, so I took a job working part-time at The Kayak Centre in Wickford, RI. Working wholesale and retail at the same time gave me great insight into the relationships between and the overall product lifecycle. Part-time evolved into full-time as a manager and buyer, and I was able to increase their assortment and product categories to marry my passions of paddle-sports and outdoor recreation.
Still in love with the coast of Rhode Island, I spend my free time surfing, skiing, fly fishing, and borrowing friends’ dogs for hikes.
